Sphere Explanation- writing

The geosphere

 Introduction:

This is earth a sphere made up of many different spheres. These spheres are Earths Systems, the geosphere,  the atmosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere. Earths systems are critical and no life would exist without them. The atmosphere, all gases and air on Earth, Hydrosphere, all bodies of water on Earth, Biosphere all life on Earth and finally the Geosphere all rocks and land on Earth.

Paragraph 1:

What are the layers of the geosphere and what are they made of? Is a question commonly asked by people learning about Earth. First of all, there are 4 layers in the geosphere. The crust, the mantle, the outer core and the inner core.

Starting with the crust; this is the layer of Earth we live and thrive on, the crust is the surface of the geosphere. It is made of solid rock. There are two parts to the Geosphere’s crust. The Continental crust and the oceanic crust.

The mantle is next. This layer is underneath the crust and around the outer core. This layer is made of semi-molten rock. Some parts of the mantle are hard and other parts are softer.

The outer core surrounds the inner core, it is a liquid layer made of iron and nickel. This layer is extremely hot with temperatures of up to 5,500℃.

The inner core is like the Earths engine room because of it’s soaring temperatures. This layer is solid and also is made of iron and nickel, it is located in the centre of Earth.

What does the geosphere do for life on earth?

The geosphere shapes the land and defines much of the environment we live in. Without the geosphere, hydrosphere and the atmosphere the biosphere would collapse and die out completely! Earths geosphere controls mineral distribution which is crucial for the economic success of most places. For example, mountain distribution, the position of continents, the shape of the seafloor and the location of major rivers and flood plains are all controlled by the geosphere.

What are some interesting facts about the geosphere?

The word ‘geo’ in greek means Earth. Our crust is made up of many tectonic plates which are always moving. Another name for the geosphere is the Lithosphere,  ‘lithos’ in greek (λíӨoς) means rocky. The oceanic lithosphere is between 5-10 miles thick and the continental crust is between 22-37 miles thick! The continental parts of the geosphere are extremely old while the oceanic parts are much younger and growing because of constant falling mantle material at mid-ocean ridges.

Conclusion:

The geosphere creates all the foundations and land that makes up Earth. To conclude, without the geosphere Earth couldn’t be how it is today and Earth would crumble then fall into a pit of nothingness.

The volcano- descriptive writing

The volcano

RUMBLE, RUMBLE. The ground shakes.

TICK, FLICK. Sparks appear.

BANG, GRR. The mountain bursts into a flame. The starry purple sky fades away, creating a sky now full of toxic fumes and dark nothingness. Lightning strikes the active volcano like a Tasmanian devil hunting down prey. Burning snow melts down the mountain of fire. Flames of magma soar across the land destroying anything and everything in sight. Trees aflame, cities crumbling, frantic individuals; can’t someone just flick a switch and stop all this chaos!” Plumes of smoke rise from the blazing lava and form a somewhat dragon-shaped figure. How could this get any worse? Fear could be felt among everyone, hearts are pounding, legs are desperately bending. “It seems the world may be ending!”

The race - description

The race

‘Slosh, slosh, slosh’ As the athletes pass a boisterous crowd cheering them on, footprints appear all over the ground turning it into a choppy sea. Elegantly autumnal trees waver. They send a silent breeze across the field. Leaping powerfully, the runners bound over a wooden hurdle, determined to finish the race. Lonely lime coloured lavatories lie behind the loud, large mass of people. Drenched in mud, the once milky white barriers change to be a tan brown hue. Vibrant uniforms are worn by all of the competitors making them look extra fierce. Mud flicks up onto everyone coating their feet and trainers in gloop. Spectators who stand around shivering are eager for a hot cup of cocoa. A while later the children finish the race one by one, the audience cheers with all their might as the children huff and puff far beyond the finish line.

The half-eaten Lotto ticket

Greetings I am a number 26 lotto ticket, and this is the story about how I got lost, and my owner won

the lotto!

It was 6:00 pm on Saturday 15th August 1987 and Mya Fields was waiting anxiously in front of the telly for the results of the third lottery in the history of New Zealand. I had been taken by the dog Grey a while ago and now I was shoulderless and stuck under the dog's HUGE bed (for a more detailed story of this go see: How my shoulder got eaten). Gleeful newsagents were about to announce the lotto winners, their faces full of delight. A thick blanket of stars now covered the once clear cerulean sky. A blazing sun was slowly fading out of sight on the edge of the horizon.

“Hello and welcome to lotto NZ, let’s see who got lucky today!” announced one agent.

“Here we go,” “numbers; 5, 11, 18, 22, 26 and 39 you have won this week’s lotto!” another one exclaimed.

“Now for the NZ strike winners after the break…”

“Welcome back!” “Time for NZ strike winners… First, number 38! And, 11! 39 again! 18! And last but not least, 26! Shouted the chief announcer.

“Looks like numbers 39 and 26 are quite fortunate this week,” Declared another.

“Wait I’m sure my number was 26!” Mya said in a worried tone. “Let me check my ticket”... “what where

is it, I wanted to keep it safe, so I put it in the back pocket of my bag, AND IT IS NOT THERE!!!!”

“It’s ok honey you’ll find it,” Gladys Mya’s grandma muttered shakily. Grandma Gladys was wondering where the dog was, I knew exactly where he was after all he was the reason I got lost and bitten. “GREAYYYY come to mama old Gladys needs a big hug,” she said.

It was then that the search began…

Every inch of the house was checked (except the dog's little house in a separate room just off of the

house which was where I was mmpphh) and there was no evidence of me anywhere. Then Gladys came looking for Grey and suddenly… “Myaaa! I think I see it!” she shouted

Was this it, would she find me?

“Well, what are you doing talking to me about it, hurry pick it up and check!!”

So that was what she did.

Suddenly I was heaved off of the ground underneath the hefty dog's bed and stared at in shock.

“Mya, this is not good!”

“What is not good Grandma?” Mya said worriedly.

“The ticket honey, it’s here but…”

Mya ran over, she was horrified!

The next day (after researching and researching and researching) Mya felt a sense of relief because

her ticket / me was still eligible so she still won 3 million dollars!!!!

The new guinea pigs!

My sister’s birthday is coming up on the 11th of October and yesterday she got a very special, very early birthday present. It was… two adorable baby guinea pigs! Giggles is the younger white-furred guinea pig who is only three weeks old, and Pinny the older one has black and white fur she is 8 weeks old. (both are girls). Pinny loves Lara more than anyone else; Giggles, on the other hand, likes to cuddle with everyone. They both really like running around when they are in their hutch but when we hold them they are calm (and definitely like going in our dressing gowns!) We called them Pinny and Giggles because Lara calls guinea pigs, Pinnea gigs!

Fitness stretching guide

 Ashley's fitness stretching guide

This stretching routine should take about 5 minutes

  1. Stand upright with your arms in a horizontal position, now start slowly circling your arms, make each circle bigger and bigger. (circles should go both forward and backward) Do this 5 times both ways.

  2. Secondly, sit down with your legs apart, and carefully lay down onto your stomach, try to make your chest touch the ground. Do this for 20 seconds, it should stretch your hamstrings.

  3. Next lay on your stomach, bend your elbows so your hands are resting right by your hips and pull your chest up, now resting in what I call the seal position. Hold for 15 seconds, this stretches your torso.

  4. Now in long front support, bend one knee still keeping it off the ground and push down on the ground. Do 10 reps each leg, this stretches your calves.

  5. For the last stretching exercise stand back up, take one hand and carefully push your head, then take the other hand to do it on the other side, finally, take both hands and do it forward. Hold each one for 10 seconds, this stretches your neck.

And as easy as that You are done!

When I clambered through a bush (recount)

When I clambered through a bush

GROOAANN…
It was a beautiful autumn day in April 2020, I was extremely bored and wanted an
adventure. Just then my mum called me and my younger siblings into the lounge, she
asked us if we wanted to go to my brother’s friends house* to find our way down, through
the vast bushes to the beach. (*They were away at their farm getaway house).
We all agreed we wanted to go, packed our bags and off we went.

Once we arrived at their house we went into the main opening, thinking that maybe the
family had previously cleared a path at least most of the way. But NO. Finally, we found
our way in but then we realized we had no sense of direction! Suddenly, we noticed we
had some unexpected company; a little fantail was following us. It followed every step of
the way, even though all of the winding vines and the several gauges, but somehow
managed to stay in front. We thought maybe it was looking for its friends or family so
we let it follow us until it had some other company.

After clambering for about forty minutes I saw a stream and squealed, Look there is a
stream we should see where it leads us!”  because I had a feeling that if we followed it, it
would lead us in the right direction. While strolling along the side of the stream I
suddenly realized that I had somehow started faltering over some slippery, mossy rocks.
In the corner of my eye, I saw a fallen tree, on the normal walk down to the beach through
the path there is another fallen tree and I thought maybe it was that one, so I started
climbing. Soon enough, I noticed that it was definitely not the same tree.

Once we passed the expansive tree the ground started to get quite muddy, but then we
saw the sun and for a few minutes debated whether we should sit down and eat or not,
we all decided to eat on the beach later. Off we went again, still following the shallow
stream, winding left and right. Suddenly, we came to a fork in the road, but I could
smell the salt coming from the beach so I knew we were near it. Then we turned the
corner, to see the beach. “Yay I see the beach!” I exclaimed. Now we were at the hardest
part of all pushing our way through carex geminata (cutty grass!) Finally I reached a
rigidity bridge that leads straight round the corner to the beach. When I looked down
my legs, ankles and fingers were covered in scratches, the grass was as sharp as tigers
claws. Everyone else was still far behind but when they reached the bridge we went
onto the beach to sit down and have something to eat!

The trip was super fun and I would definitely want to do it again but next time I should
really wear pants instead of shorts!

The Giant

I was perched on the tips of my toes, peeking over the ancient gate. Right in front of me was a

substantial palace, still standing after a thousand years, it seemed as though it would never

collapse. Looking as opulent as ever.  Lined up side by side were numerous, bushy oak and

evergreen trees. The lawn was lush, silky and green.

Suddenly, I felt and heard a colossal rumble give me a shock through my body, it was like the

start of a powerful earthquake. “What is that!?,” I exclaimed as a stone finger creeped out of

the grass releasing a ‘kkkkkkkkkkh’ sound from the rip in the manicured grass, soon enough

people were panicking, dashing everywhere,  what I could hear was the public screaming,

“aaaaaahhhhhh!” The tremendous giant’s hand came next thwacking the ground as it came

tumbling down. BANG!CRASH! Part of the palace started to crumble. All I could think was ‘I am

going to die!’ I was trying to escape, my whole body was trembling, I turned to look behind me

which was a foolish thing to do because that was when,

I frozzze

The history of money

The History of Money

Task: Complete the timeline below describing the early history of money

9000 BC: animals like cattle, sheep, and camels were used when bartering.

1200 BC: In places like China, Africa, the Pacific, and Indian oceans cowrie shells were used for bartering. beads or sharks' teeth or animal skins.

1000 BC: Chinese people were the first to use metal money (copper and bronze).
Also used tool money like spades, knives, and hoes.

500 BC: In Lydia, Turkey coins were made of a mix of gold and silver. They were also stamped on the back.

806 AD: Made from paper because of the loss of supplies in China. Used for 5 centuries but banned because it rose out of control.

Inquiry- explain bartering

Bartering

Task: Explain the Barter System below and give an example of how this worked.

Bartering is when two or more people trade goods equally. They trade goods or services with each other only when they both have things that they want and are ok with / agree with the trade. There are many disadvantages of not agreeing when it comes to bartering, if someone has something you want but they don’t want what you have to offer you cannot take it anyway. Some examples of bartering are; an egg for an apple, a cow for a kg of wheat, or some seeds for rice.

Speech video- Save bees Save humanity

Save bees save humanity- speech topic

Introduction:
Bzzzzz, Ahh! Sorry, I thought I saw a bee. I must’ve been in a bit of a daydream!  “If bees disappeared off the face of the Earth, man would only have four years left to live.” This quote from Albert Einstein gets me thinking, do we need bees that badly? Many people think bees are just annoying flying insects that can sting you. Yet that is not what they are. I think that bees are the world's little helpers and they are imperative to all life on earth.
Main point 1:
Many people take bees for granted and kill them just because they fear getting stung. Do you ever wonder what would happen if bees disappeared entirely? With their extinction, we would suffer from loss of plants, crops and animals, famine & there would be widespread hardship for us humans. Research shows, about one out of every three bites of food in America is made possible by bees. Also, in the United States alone, Honeybees pollinate $15 billion worth of crops each year.
Main point 2:
You may wonder. What threatens bees? Well, parasites, pesticides, climate change and habitat loss are significant. But we, humans, are the main cause. We pollute the atmosphere, we take the habits of these innocent creatures, we place poison on their food. Us, humans, are like the witch from snow white, and the flowers we spray with chemicals are like the poisoned apple. By killing bees, we, in fact, threaten our future survival! We need to raise awareness of the abundance of help bees give us.  Imagine you are a bee flying around peacefully when suddenly you smell something delicious.  With a careful approach and a gentle sniff (ok so bees don’t sniff but you get the idea), you take a lick?  Next thing…well, there is no next thing because that is the end of you.  That is the reality our pesticides and poisons cause for our precious bees.
 Main point 3:
YOU can help! Dandelions and clovers are good nutrition for bees so even though may look a bit scruffy, let some weeds grow! Consider placing flowering plants in your garden. Having a bit of free water in your backyard will help too because just like you and me, bees need water. Parents and guardians mmmm. You need to remind them “Mum, Dad please don’t hurt the bees, don’t put pesticides on our flowers!”
Conclusion:
Save bees Save humanity. Please don’t let anyone tell you that bees aren’t important! I hope I have convinced you that bees are not just annoying, that they are our special helpers and the main reason we are alive and enjoying abundant food! We should have care and respect for even the smallest of living things. They are here to help us not hurt us.
Turns out that even the smallest life really can change the world.
Thank you.
